Years Paddled:

Husband Dennis of 13 years

Where She’s From:

I grew up in Wadesboro, NC  and lived in Durham before moving to Haw River, NC

Where She Went to School:

I have degrees in education from both UNCG and UNCC.

Where She’s Worked:

I am a retired elementary teacher.  I taught special education and third grade in Anson and Orange County Schools.

What Has Influenced Her Life:

God has blessed me in so many ways….a lifetime of loving, supportive family, friendships that I cherish, wonderful church families through the years,  a profession that I loved,  and a  husband who has expanded my love of the outdoors in so many ways- hiking, camping, kayaking,  traveling to National Parks all over the U.S., teaching me so much about the nature all around us.  My students taught me there is something to be excited about and to learn each day.

Fun Fact:

I used to take our collie to school…….as part of the Pet Pals Program where students read to him to help improve reading skills!  We also visited a nursing facility where “Lassie” was very popular with many residents and their families.

In Her Own Words:

My father chose to participate in a clinical trial through the Duke Brain Tumor Center.  In his words,”  I want to do this so that someone might be helped later.”  I am paddling in his memory,  in the hope that I too, might be of help in this fight against a disease that affects so many families.

“We can do no great things, only small things with great love.”   Mother Teresa
