This year’s raffle was a huge success for Hope Floats NC and we appreciate everyone that purchased a ticket this year. We drew the winners at the end of the Oriental Boat Show the day after we finished up the 2017 I Am Hope Tour.
The First Place Prize of the Perception Tribe 135 Tandem goes to Lance H. of Fuquay Varina. Along with the kayak, he will also receive a $250 gift card from our sponsor Great Outdoor Provision Company to go towards the purchase of a PFDs and Paddles. I am sure he will really enjoy getting out on the water this summer on his new kayak.
Second Place Prize of the Tailgate Garden Bench goes to Jim J. of Bailey. We are sure Jim will enjoy a relaxing sit in his back yard on this one of a kind bench. It will also make a great conversation piece.
Third Place Prize of the $100 VISA gift card goes to Cathy S. of Siler City. Who doesn’t like unexpected money!
Fourth Place Prize of the Day Kayaking Trip for 4 goes to Tana M. of Oriental. Tana and 3 of her friends will come along with some of the Hope Floats NC Team and enjoy a day kayaking trip to anywhere in Eastern North Carolina with all of the gear included.
Congratulations to all of our prize winners. Even if you bought a ticket and didn’t win a prize, in the end we all are winners as the money we raised from the raffle will go to programs supported by the American Cancer Society. Through programs that support research, prevention and direct patient programs we all are winners in the fight against cancer.
The North Carolina Mountains to the Sea Trail (MST) is a premier hiking trail in our State that stretches 1150 miles from Clingman’s Dome in the Great Smokey Mountains to Jockey’s Ridge on the Outer Banks.
At this time the trail is not complete and there is a large section in the Eastern part of the state that hikers have been unable to complete. In January of 2015 the Friends of the Mountains to the Sea Trail (FMST) announced three alternatives to completing the MST in the Coastal Plain until the trail is complete. One of these alternatives consists of paddling the Neuse River from Smithfield to Pine Cliff Recreation Area in Croatan National Forest.
Hope Floats NC was contacted by FMST in July and has been asked about the possibility of people joining our tour to complete their journey on the MST. This is a great opritunity for both groups as it will give MST hikers a great alternative to completing their journey and would give Hope Floats NC new possibilities for fulfilling our mission.
MST hikers interested in joining us to complete their quest should read the FAQ and contact the Tour Leadership as space is limited on our tour.
